Women and girls in Afghanistan see no hope for the future

Iran and Pakistan have begun deporting Afghans who fled the Taliban's rule. For women in particular, returning means living under some of the harshest restrictions of any country, leaving many fearing that they have no future under the Taliban regime.

After Iran's crackdown on Afghan migrants, Rahela and her daughters returned to Herat, Afghanistan. Now under Taliban rule, Rahela is confined at home without a male guardian. Her daughter Sahar, barred from education in both Iran and Afghanistan, faces a bleak future. Girls are banned from secondary school, with madrassas as their only option. Faiza, once aspiring to be a doctor, studies Quranic sciences, hoping for change. Despite despair, Sahar clings to hope for regime change and educational freedom.
