Wanjiku Mwaura is a multimedia journalist and creative producer with over a decade of experience shaping African narratives on the global stage. Based at Deutsche Welle (DW) in Bonn, Germany, she is known for her fearless storytelling, innovative media formats, and deep commitment to digital literacy across the continent.
Wanjiku began her career with DW English for Africa Radio in Nairobi in 2011 before joining DW’s headquarters in Bonn in 2016. Her editorial vision and cross-platform expertise have since propelled her to the forefront of international public media.
She is the lead producer behind DW’s award-winning podcast, Don't Hold Back, and is also producing Under the Baobab. This bold political vodcast dissects African political topics with a personal touch. She also plays a strategic role as co-coordinator of Learning by Ear, DW’s multilingual digital literacy initiative for young African audiences.
Wanjiku is the creator and producer of Click on the Link, a gripping 10-part radio drama exposing the inner workings of cybercrime. The series has been translated into Kiswahili, Hausa, French, and Portuguese, thereby extending its reach and relevance across diverse African regions.
Previously, she served for over five years as a lead presenter on DW’s The 77 Percent, a flagship radio and TV program spotlighting Africa’s dynamic youth. Her storytelling legacy continues through WhatElse, a pan-African digital video series she co-created, co-authored, and hosted—offering constructive, solution-driven narratives that challenge stereotypes and resonate with global audiences.
A respected speaker and moderator, Wanjiku has led high-level conversations at international platforms, including the Global Media Forum in Bonn, the Global Landscapes Forum, and the Constructive Journalism Conference. Her creative voice also shines through poetry, with performances at renowned festivals including Johannesburg’s Arts Alive, Germany’s Poesie International, and Nairobi’s Storymoja Hay Festival.
