Vietnam Government Sensitive to Criticism

The Vietnamese government seems to be taking a hard line against critics these days. Several bloggers and journalists who had covered sensitive issues such as relations with China have been detained.

On Tuesday, the country's only independent think tank, the Institute for Development Studies in Hanoi, was forced to shut down just two years after being set up because of new state restrictions on scholars.

In a statement, the institute said the act of banning open opposition was "unscientific, unprogressive and undemocratic".
