Europe's undersea cables under attack?

The Baltic Sea is a hotspot for undersea communications cables. They connect the world, but they are vulnerable. A series of incidents damaging them has led NATO countries to suspect systematic sabotage.

Undersea cables are vital for global internet and energy, yet increasingly vulnerable. In the Baltic Sea, multiple incidents since 2023 suggest possible sabotage, with cargo ships like the Eagle S suspected of damaging cables.

Experts point to Russia’s strategic interest and hybrid warfare tactics. NATO has responded with patrols and operations, but proving intent remains difficult.
