August 31, 2025

The city of El Fasher in Sudan's Darfur region was captured by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, who are now accused of blocking food and aid to hundreds of thousands of trapped civilians. The RSF has been fighting government forces since April 2023.

After 500 days of siege, El Fasher in Sudan's Darfur region faces a humanitarian crisis. UNICEF reports that more than 130,000 children are trapped, with starvation and disease spreading. The paramilitary Rapid Support Forces are accused of blocking aid, and of killing 89 civilians, including 16 summary executions. Cholera outbreaks and attacks on hospitals are exacerbating the crisis.
