System Design and Planning

Through careful and thorough planning, systems can be developed which fulfil the requirements arising from continuous adaptations to new framework conditions, and hence have longer operating lives

Due to the high investment costs of technical equipment, the production facilities of a television station should fulfill the production requirements for as long as possible. Because of the rapidly changing television market, a high degree of flexibility becomes an important system design criterion. New media services often do not reach the expected level of acceptance. In addition, political decisions and media legislation may cause public and commercial television stations to redefine their missions and objectives. These extraordinary, dynamic influences may fundamentally change the requirements placed on the technical production facilities.

When defining the functionality of the production facilities, the system designer must also take into consideration the requirements of the journalists, producers and other creative program designers as well as the production staff. The goal is to develop a customized solution for clearly defined tasks.

Possible content:

• Project management (coordination of project scope, cost, time and resources)
• Departmental and interdepartmental communications
• Requirements analysis for technical functionality
• Analysis of internal and external signal interfaces
• Preparing requirement profiles for technical installations
• Space requirements and technical infrastructure
• Systems engineering
• Technical an ergonomic system design
• Qualitative and quantitative project risk analysis
• Qualification of suppliers and contractors
• Tendering processes
