Study in Brandenburg
March 7, 2012The campus of the Brandenburg University of Applied Sciences is one of the most beautiful in Germany. Not surprisingly, this functions as a major promotional feature. Established in 1992, the university is located on the grounds of a former barracks.
The old buildings have been renovated and new ones have been built. The sunny, carefully converted horse stables are now home to the multi-award-winning university library.
Meanwhile, the former mess hall, which used to be the place where military officers met to eat, is now a large lecture hall. And although these days you can't ride on horseback through the main entrance, the place is still teeming with life as groups of those knowledge-seeking creatures known as students shuffle in and out.
The grounds are small and well-arranged. The paths are surrounded by green lawns and the cafeteria has an adjacent playground. The student dorm is also located within the campus grounds.
Personal supervision
The atmosphere on campus is exceptionally laidback. In the 2009-2010 winter semester, there were around 3,000 students enrolled here, of which nine percent were foreigners. The university doesn't suffer from overcrowded lectures or a jam-packed library, which means that the professors and tutors can look after their students better. For foreign students, this entails personal supervision and assistance in nearly all aspects of university life. The staff members at the Academic Foreign Office are proud of the fact that they know each foreign student by name. They organize various intercultural events and offer German courses to strengthen the community spirit.
International degrees
The University of Applied Sciences offers bachelor and master's courses in the areas of economics, information technology and media, as well as technology. There is also an increasing amount of international degree courses, such as Computing and Media and Technology and Innovations Management, with lectures in both English and German.
The students praise the top-notch technological equipment that the university offers, as well as the close contact with lecturers and the practice-oriented teaching style. The research that's carried out here always aims to be directly applicable to real-life situations. Course subjects are developed in cooperation with professionals from the fields of economics, trade and management.
Many foreign students claim to feel particularly well-supported here and like the way the campus is arranged. Also, students greatly appreciate the general peacefulness of the city of Brandenburg. It's the type of place where you can really concentrate on your work.
