Specter of war: Are Europeans really ready to rearm?

For decades now, Europe has relied on military protection provided by the United States. But the Russian war in Ukraine and US President Donald Trump's second term in office have ushered in a new chapter in the continent's history. Many European countries are strengthening their armed forces, with billions of euros flowing into the military and defense. Europe wants, indeed needs, to stand together, without depending heavily on others. But how quickly can the continent be ready to defend itself? Does the public support the drive towards remilitarization? We traveled across Europe and met civilians, soldiers and security experts to find out.
