Sheila Mysorekar
Journalist and media consultant with expertise on peace and conflict issues. Head of the German post-migrant network neue deutsche organisationen
@MysorekarSheilaSheila has always worked internationally, and has developed a particular expertise in the world's conflict regions
Sheila grew up in India and Germany and studied in Cologne, Germany and at the University of London, Goldsmiths College. As a journalist, her focus was on international affairs, politics and human rights issues. For 11 years, she lived in Argentina, covering South American countries for German media.
Presently, she is working for DW Akademie, Germany's biggest media development organization, as a consultant for conflict-sensitive journalism, refugees, migration and media in post-conflict states. This work has often taken her to Libya, Lebanon, Uganda and South Sudan, among other countries.
In 2019, Sheila spent three months as a Rotary Peace Fellow in Thailand, doing peace and conflict studies at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok. This deepened her focus on conflict and forced displacement and eventually led to her present responsibilities: in charge of crisis preparedness with the Africa Team at DW Akademie.
All her life, Sheila has been very vocal on anti-racist issues. Currently, she is the chairperson of the neue deutsche organisationen (New German Organizations), a network of around 200 post-migrant organizations promoting diversity, inclusion and anti-racist policies.
