Rome’s last eel fisher

In Rome, eels fished from the local Tiber River are a traditional delicacy. Prepared with peas and tomato sauce or served fried, eel was often eaten at Christmas or New Year. In post-war Italy, eels were plentiful, and dozens of fishermen would fish eels at the Tiber. But since the 1970s, eels have started disappearing.
