July 1, 2025

Nagyirasos embroidery comes from the Kalotaszeg region of western Romania. Local embroiderers skilled in this craft accuse fashion brand Mango of using a traditional design without crediting the source.

Nagyirasos is a centuries-old traditional style of embroidery from the Kalotaszeg (Tara Calatei) region of western Romania, which has a significant Hungarian population.

The skills and craft required to do such embroidery are passed down from generation to generation.

Skilled embroiderers from the region noticed that embroidery used on clothes in fashion brand Mango's fall collection bore more than a passing resemblance to traditional Nagyirasos designs.

Determined not to take this lying down, they decided to confront the brand and ask it to give credit where credit is due.
