Renewed debate about family planning in the Philippines

The bill, which has been in limbo for years, is backed by the president but strenuously opposed by the dominant Roman Catholic church, would oblige the government to fund mass contraception programmes. While many want to improve pre- and post-natal care, introduce mandatory sex education and improve access to contraceptives, the Catholic Church fiercly opposes these measures.
