Power outage in Spain and Portugal

Spain and Portugal experienced a dramatic power outage that lasted several hours on Monday, causing transport chaos and leaving tens of millions without electricity. The blackout halted elevators, stopped subways, knocked out traffic lights and shut down transport hubs.

Both Spain and Portugal declared a state of emergency as Spain's power grid operator worked to restore power. The cause of the outage may not be known for months. Portugal, which relies on its neighbor for electricity at certain hours, blamed Spain for the blackout.
