NGOs demand fair mobile phones to improve conditions for locals in DRC

Sp. Early, Samantha/A: Gehrke, MirjamJuly 24, 2013

Mobile phones contain lots of different minerals - coltan for instance. A huge part of global coltan comes from mines in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Local people suffer because different forces subject them to violence to gain control over the mines. Human rights activists call on mobile phone producers to take responsibility for the whole of their production chain.
