Nepal's army is patrolling the streets of the capital Kathmandu, after deadly protests in which the parliament and ministers' homes were set on fire. Protests started over a short-lived social media ban but escalated to reveal deep-seated resentment by Nepal's youth towards the political elite.

Nepal's government headquarters in Kathmandu was set ablaze as Gen Z-led protests defied a nationwide curfew. Demonstrators torched parliament and attacked politicians' homes, including that of Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli, who has resigned.

The unrest began over a social media ban but escalated after a deadly police crackdown. Protesters are celebrating what they call a victory for youth and democracy, while Nepal's army chief urges calm and dialogue amid ongoing anger over corruption and unemployment.
