The Israeli strikes on a Gaza hospital that killed five journalists, along with at least 15 other people, have further demonstrated the dangers reporters face in covering the nearly two-year war. Reporting is also becoming increasingly dangerous in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

In the occupied West Bank, Palestinian journalists face growing Israeli threats when covering protests and military raids.

DW's Fanny Facsar, reporting from Ramallah, witnessed cameraman Issam Rimawi navigating daily risks ranging from intimidation to direct fire.

The Israel Defense Forces killed Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh in May 2022, and since October 2023 detentions and attacks have been on the rise.

As the war in Gaza intensifies, press freedom across the region is under increasing pressure.
