Jeevan Ravindran

Multimedia journalist covering Sri Lanka, with a special focus on politics, human rights, conflict and social issues.

Jeevan Ravindran is the daughter of Tamil parents, and grew up listening to their stories of the conflict in Sri Lanka. Her passion for human rights inspired her to become a journalist and tell underreported stories.

Jeevan Ravindran is a multimedia journalist splitting time between Sri Lanka and the UK, covering human rights, politics and social issues.

She began her career as a visuals producer at Reuters, working in Paris, Madrid and London. She then worked as a digital journalist at CNN and as a researcher at Amnesty International in Sri Lanka.

Jeevan also co-hosted the award-winning podcast by Chayn on sexual violence in the UK, 'Less Than 2 Percent,' and hosted a Tamil music show on BBC Asian Network.

Her freelance work in Sri Lanka has focused on marginalized communities, particularly Malaiyaha Tamil tea pluckers and war-affected Tamil civilians. She has reported on labor rights infringements, the fallout from Sri Lanka's economic crisis, and the continuing search for answers for wartime violations.

She holds a degree in French and Spanish from the University of Oxford.

Jeevan speaks French, Spanish, Tamil, English and Sinhala.
