Indonesia protests persist despite tight security

Tensions simmer in Indonesia with anti-government protesters back on the streets. Violence erupted last week when police ran over and killed a man at a rally against privileges enjoyed by politicians. Protesters are now demanding concrete action from the president.

In Jakarta, thousands of motorcycle taxi drivers gathered peacefully at the National Monument after a fellow driver was killed in a clash with riot police. The protest, marked by flowers and solidarity, follows a week of unrest that left 10 people dead and over 1,200 detained. Amid rising public anger over police violence, economic strain, and political inaction, calls for reform grow louder.
