For years, Pakistan had been sidelined in geopolitics, as the US and other rich countries developed stronger ties with its archrival India. But Islamabad is expecting economic and diplomatic gains amid its improved relations with Washington, DC.

Pakistan is recovering from a major economic crisis, boosted by a new trade deal with the US that cuts textile tariffs from 29% to 19%. US President Donald Trump has also elevated Pakistan’s diplomatic profile, hosting Army Chief Asim Munir and praising mediation efforts with India. Islamabad is strengthening ties with the US, China, Russia and regional partners like Turkey and Iran, while tensions persist with India and Afghanistan.
