Help in short supply in earthquake-stricken Afghanistan

In eastern Afghanistan, rescue and relief workers are still struggling to reach victims in remote areas after two powerful earthquakes struck the region. Local emergency resources are stretched thin after a sharp drop in international aid under the Taliban government.

A powerful earthquake has devastated Afghanistan’s Kunar province, destroying thousands of homes and cutting off mountain communities from aid. With roads blocked, airlifts are the only lifeline. Hospitals are overwhelmed, and doctors warn of shortages in medicine, food, tents and clean water. Despite pledges from the UN and EU, aid remains limited amid global funding cuts.
