The Balkans was the scene of Europe's last big war - and the healing process is still taking place today. The Goethe Institute's "Daring to Remember" is an Internet platform for writers and artists that allows them to discuss the past and present with each other.

Croatian photographer Sandra Vitaljic is also involved in the project; she has taken photographs depicting the scenes of horrific war crimes. ARTS.21 accompanies her on a painful trip back in time, and toward an attempt at reconciliation.
