Germany's new government

The leader of the CSU/CDU bloc Friedrich Merz managed to garner enough votes in the second round of voting in the Bundestag to become Germany's new chancellor.

After Friedrich Merz failed to garner enough votes in the first round of voting in the Bundestag, he managed in round two. This is the first time in Germany's postwar history that a chancellor candidate hasn't been elected in the first round.
