Mali is renowned for its vibrant music culture. Its musicians and cultural artists were known to spread the news across the country. But that changed in 2012, when several insurgent groups began fighting against the government. The jihadists banned music and its growing news media. Now small operations like Le Sahélien are helping keep the idea of nationwide news coverage alive.
