France wildfires scorch land larger than Paris, still raging

One dead, several injured as wildfires scorch 12,000 hectares near Spanish border, sending thick smoke across the sky. Officials warn rising temperatures may worsen the blaze.

A massive wildfire has engulfed the Commune of Saint-Laurent-de-la-Cabrerisse, leaving destruction in its wake. Smoke chokes the horizon, and one elderly resident has died. Thousands have evacuated, with flames reaching homes and skies filled with firefighting planes. Officials warn the blaze may burn for days due to strong winds, low humidity, and rising temperatures. Over 2,000 firefighters are battling what is now France's largest fire this summer.
