France has returned three human skulls to Madagascar, including one believed to belong to King Toera, executed in 1897 for resisting colonization.

The remains, held in a Paris museum, were formally handed over under a new law enabling faster repatriation.

Malagasy leaders call the return a powerful act of recognition and reconciliation. The skulls will be reburied on the anniversary of the king's death.
