Earlier this year, Turkey witnessed its largest demonstrations in a long time. With hundreds of thousands of people taking to the streets across the country. Mass protests against the arrest of Ekrem Imamoglu, Istanbul’s mayor who was considered Turkey’s most important opposition figure and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s biggest rival. The politician has been behind bars since mid-March. Imamoglu still has many young supporters like Gisem Sert. However, things have quieted down in Turkey because authorities have made it very clear that fresh mass protests will not be tolerated.
