Energie Cottbus

Energie Cottbus come off their best season ever, having secured their place in the first division with relative ease. But they were raided this summer by Wolfsburg, who cherry-picked both of the small eastern German club's top goal getters, Romanians Sergiu Radu and Vlad Munteanu.

Those two were unusual bargains, and Cottbus will need a lot of luck for any of their new arrivals to replace them. Energie has also lost the heart and soul of their defense, Kevin McKenna.

Coach Petrik Sander is a hard-as-nails skipper who tolerates nothing but 100 percent effort from his charges. But even that may not be enough, given the meager talent at his disposal.

"We are still absolutely one of the candidates for relegation," Sander has admitted. "Nothing has changed there."

Cottbus will likely go down fighting.
