Eintracht Frankfurt

Frankfurt punched above their usual weight last season and will attempt to do so again after signing two internationally known midfielders: Japan's Junichi Inamoto and Iran's Mehdi Mahdavikia.

But although Inamoto has played for Arsenal and Galatasary, he failed to score a single goal for either team, and Mahdavikia looked over-the-hill last season for Hamburg. Adding to Frankfurt's problems are pre-season injuries to the entire back four.

If ever-ambitious Frankfurt get off to a poor start, things could quickly spiral out of control. But at least it will happen in front of a full house -- the team has already sold a club record 26,000 season tickets.

Chairman Heribert Bruchhagen said Frankfurt's goal this season is merely to improve. Even that will be difficult to achieve.

Coach: Friedhelm Funkel

Acquisitions: Junichi Inamoto (Galatasaray Istanbul), Kreso Ljubicic (Frankfurt amateurs), Mehdi Mahdavikia (Hamburg), Aaron Galindo (Grasshoppers Zürich)

Departures: Jermaine Jones (Schalke 04), Marko Rehmer (retired), Christopher Reinhard (Karlsruhe), Danyel Cimen (Kickers Offenbach), Benjamin Huggel (Basel)
