In India, at least four people have died and many more are missing after a mudslide buried an entire village. The Indian army has launched a search and rescue mission. The incident took place in the northern Uttarakhand state after a sudden heavy downpour caused flash flooding.

A sudden river of mud swept through Dharali, a tourist hotspot in India's Himalayas, destroying homes, roads, and about a dozen hotels. Several people are confirmed dead, with many still missing. Rescue efforts by the army, police, and disaster response teams are underway but hindered by remote terrain. Authorities have requested helicopters to assist. With more rain forecast, fears grow for thousands living in the region, where cloudbursts are becoming increasingly common.
