Bavarian Interior Minister Günther Beckstein accused Berlin of underestimating the danger posed by Muslim extremists within Germany. "We have indications from the Federal Criminal Police that a terror attack in Germany is more likely than officials have made it out to be," Beckstein told Die Welt newspaper. This means it is urgent for Germany to come up with a new immigration law quickly, he said. If the negotiations take too long, then security issues have to be dealt with right up front. The ruling Social Democrat-Green coalition and the opposition conservative Christian Democrats are currently in negotiations over the laws. They are also seeking a simplified means of deporting foreigners suspected of being terrorists. German Justice Minister Brigitte Zypries denied Beckstein's accusation, accusing him of fomenting hysteria .
