Bundesliga
April 5, 2008Schalke 1 – 0 Rostock
Schalke, who lost 1-0 at home to Barcelona in the Champions
League quarter-final in midweek, improved their
chances of returning to the competition next season thanks to a
Halil Altintop goal early in the second half.
Schalke international Kevin Kuranyi is going through a tough time…substituted against Barcelona the German international started on the bench on Saturday and failed to make an impact when he came on late in the second half…He will be chuffed to have read a banner from the Schalke supporters…Keep your chin up, Kevin it read. Rostock resisted stubbornly but still had to concede Altintop`s goal…a result which takes Schalke up to second place….they now go five games without defeat
Hertha BSC 1–2 Bremen
Goals from Markus Rosenberg and Tim Borowski gave Werder
Bremen victory in Berlin. Rosenberg stole in to convert a low in the first minute. Brazilian Andre Lima headed an equaliser, but Borowski secured the points when he showed excellent ball control after bringing down a long pass by Torsten Frings to score the winner midway through the second half.
Frankfurt 1– 3 Nürnberg
The match was stopped for 20 minutes after
Nuremberg fans fired fireworks onto the pitch with the score level at 1-1. Several flares hit the playing surface and police moved in to calm the supporters. The game was then resumed with both Frankfurt's Michael Fink and Nuremberg's Angelos Charisteas having scored …Goals by Vittek and Misimovic then gave Nuremberg a surprise victory to keep their slim chances of survival alive.
Stuttgart 1– 0 Hamburg
Hamburg dropped a place to third after Roberto Hilbert
scored with a volley. Hamburg almost equalised when Stuttgart goalie Ulreich tipped a powerful Nigel de Jong header over the bar. But somehow Stuttgart held on. Stuttgart were without their star striker Mario Gomez who was out injured…Hamburg`s run of 11 games without defeat coming to an end there. However, the north German club have not won an away match since October
Wolfsburg 3 –2 Hannover
Ashkan Dejagah 2 with two goals and Marcelinho with one
kept Wolfsburg`s good season on track… Bruggink and Jirzi Stajner replied for Hanover
Bielefeld 1 – 0 Karlsruhe
Real drama in Bielefeld as the winning goal by Greek striker Leonidas was scored in the 92nd minute. The victory keeps Bielfeld just above the relegation zone
Borussia Dortmund 2 – Bayer Leverkusen 1
Just five minutes into the second half, Dortmund keeper Marc Ziegler fluffed a clearance from a back-pass. Leverkusen striker Stefan Kießling was surprised, but not unhappy to find himself alone in front of goal, and scored easily.
Dortmund pressed hard for an equalizer, even striking woodwork, but nothing was coming. Just as it looked like goalkeeper Ziegler would have to bear a loss on his shoulders, his team-mates came to the rescue. Four minutes from time, Brazilian defender Dede made an overlapping run on the left and delivered a beauty of a cross which found Swiss Alexander Frei free in the penalty area. He slotted home from 12 meters for his first goal of this season, much of which he has missed through injury.
And then in injury time, Dede completed the turning of the game on its head, latching on to a poor clearance just outside the box and scoring with a low, hard shot. The 70,000-plus fans at the Westfalen-Stadion were delirious, and having so much fun that Dede climbed a fence and tried to join them. Luckily a steward talked him out of it.
Bayern Munich 3 – Bochum 1
Bochum struck early in this encounter, getting a goal in the 4th minute via Mimoun Azaouagh’s well-taken shot from about 25 meters out that left Bayern ‘keeper Oliver Kahn helpless. Things began to look dark for Bayern in the 27th minute as Dutch midfield destroyer Marc Van Bommel got himself sent off for a second-yellow-card worthy offense.
But Defender Lucio got the Bavarians back on track just four minutes later with a powerful header off a Bastian Schweinsteiger free kick. Bayern scored again in the 74th minute through a Franck Ribery penalty, and again in the 87th minute as Christian Lell collected a bouncing back-heeled through ball from Miroslav Klose and scored from close range.
