Bangladeshi adoptees search for their birth families

Thousands of Bangladeshi children were were put up for adoption under false premises. A web of trafficking, deception and lost identities was uncovered once the humanitarian facade was taken down.

The children's birth families were tricked, being told that adoption would improve their children's wellbeing. Children were wrongly put up for adoption. Now, an NGO in the Netherlands is helping adopted Bangladeshis establish contact with their biological families, and to discover more about their roots. Sander Maulmeester was adopted as a toddler almost 50 years ago by a Dutch couple. The whole process was based on falsh premises. Now he is traveling to Bangladesh to find his biological family.
