Antarctica: The quiet race to claim natural resources

Antarctica has been an example of international cooperation for decades, but there are signs that change is coming with the melting ice.

The video explores the global geopolitical and environmental significance of Antarctica. The southernmost continent is rich in freshwater, minerals, oil, gas, and marine life like krill, but access to these resources is heavily restricted. The Antarctic Treaty, signed by 58 countries, promotes peace and scientific cooperation, banning military activity and resource extraction. However, recent geopolitical tensions and territorial claims by countries such as Chile, Australia, and the UK have raised concerns about the treaty’s stability.
