19/11/09November 19, 2009

Hamid Karzai has been sworn in for a second term as president of Afghanistan. In his inauguration speech, Karzai pledged to fight corruption and take control of his country's security before his five-year term ends.

Karzai is under a lot of international pressure to deliver during his second term, as he was re-elected in an election marred by poll rigging.

Meanwhile British aid agency Oxfam and a group of Afghan organisations have conducted a survey in the country.

70 percent of their respondents have said that they see poverty and unemployment as a major cause of the conflict, while only 36 percent blamed the Taliban.
