Scientists predict that small rises in the earth's temperatures will lead to an increase in the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events like heatwaves, severe storms and droughts.

Developing countries, heavily dependent on rural industries, are less able to cope with these adverse impacts of climate change and are going to be hit hardest. There is also widespread recognition that richer nations, which have caused the majority of the world's greenhouse gas pollution that contributes to global warming, have a greater responsibility to both fix the problem and help poorer nations to cope.

And with this in mind two funding mechanism called the Adaptation Fund and the Least Developed Countries Fund have been established within the Kyoto Protocol to help the world's poorest.
